I found them to be a great way to help students build their confidence, and take some of the mystery out of drawing. Nine simple illustrated steps allowed them all to work at their own pace. The biggest benefit to using printed tutorials was that everyone could finally work independently. My solution was to create my own step by step handouts. Some students always wanted to go faster, and some slower. Step 4: Glue the half face to the blue paper. ![]() Step 3: Cut out the completed half face from the template. Direct draw instructions on the front board did work for a little while, but had limitations. Step 2: Using a contrasting colour, trace around the whole face to create a silhouette and cut. It became clear that many were often unsure about how to start or how to continue.
